Adrienne Katner named Program Director of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences
A faculty member since 2014 and engaged in environmental health in Louisiana since 2006
Adrienne Katner, DEnv, MS has been named Director of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Program at the LSU Health Sciences Center School of Public Health. Katner, who joined the School of Public Health faculty in 2014, has been engaged in environmental health in Louisiana since 2006. Adrienne Katner is an Associate Professor of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences. Her research focuses on evaluating how effective federal drinking water regulations and prevailing public health guidelines are in reducing water contaminant exposures. Her efforts to evaluate New Orleans water lead levels, and to raise awareness of the issue of lead in water after pipe replacements garnered national media and government attention. Prior to entering academia, she was an environmental health scientist with Louisiana Office of Public Health’s Section of Environmental Epidemiology and Toxicology Program for seven years, where she ran several programs including the Environmental Public Health Tracking Program. Prior to this she conducted research at the National Cancer Institute’s Occupational and Environmental Epidemiology Branch. She has a broad background in public health, with specific training in exposure and risk assessment and environmental public health policy. In 2017, Katner was elected membership to the Delta Omega Honorary Society in Public Health, Alpha Psi chapter and elected by the School of Public health student body for the Dr. Allen A. Copping Award for Excellence in Teaching.
