LSUHSC Campus

“The campus is part of a multi-school health sciences center and is within several blocks of the regional level-1 trauma center, multi-specialty teaching hospital and the Office of Public Health in New Orleans. Being close to other schools and health facilities provides amble opportunities for collaboration, internships and employment.”

Dr Elizabeth G. Levitzky, MBA, PhD

Location of LSUHSC

Located in the heart of New Orleans, the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC) is located in the Mid-City neighborhood close to the Central Business District.  This places students in the heart of an emerging health sciences-focused corridor that includes University Hospital, the Louisiana Cancer Research Center and VA Hospital.

The campus is located less than one mile from the historic French Quarter district and roughly two miles from the famed Garden District and Uptown neighborhoods. With its central location, the Health Sciences campus allows students to live in and explore one of America’s greatest cities.

The Campus Through a Student’s Eye

“It’s a giant maze! Definitely walk around and explore on your own to get your bearings. I really appreciate the small class sizes because I got to know all my professors and vice versa. That’s not something you get everywhere, so use it to your advantage

The cafeteria food is cheap and decent. Aroma is right down the street and has great Indian food.”

Carli Harvey, Class of 2023

Security

Living in the heart of a vibrant city such as New Orleans can seem overwhelming and we understand that, as is the case in all large cities, crime is a concern for those heading to our campus.  The safety and security of our students is one of our top priorities here at the LSU School of Public Health and on the Health Sciences campus.

Some safety features implemented on campus:
  • LSUHSC has its own police force which surveils and patrols campus 24/7, including all parking locations
  • Elevated walkways allow students to walk between buildings, off the street and out of the weather
  • Key card access is required for all buildings
  • Blue light call stations are located around campus in case of emergencies
  • LSU Shield App allows students to have direct contact with Campus Police
