Housing

Once accepted into the LSUHSC SPH, if you would like to live on campus, you should apply for on-campus housing immediately. Because availability is limited student housing at LSUHSC New Orleans because of proximity and on-campus living.  Both student housing facilities are designed for the individual student to enjoy a safe and comfortable home while living on campus.

Students of the LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans are eligible to reside in LSUHSC housing facilities. In addition, Post Doc’s and Affiliates (i.e. Visiting Faculty, Visiting Researchers, Visiting House Officers and Visiting Students) will be allowed on-campus housing at Stanislaus Hall provided that capacity exists after fulfilling student demand and that they are here for training or educational purposes. The University reserves the right to terminate a rental or remove a tenant from occupancy at any time. Go to http://www.lsuhsc.edu/administration/ae/docs/LSUHSC-NO%20Housing%20Brochure.pdf  for more information on housing in LSUHSC.

Student housing application can be done online. Link for student housing application is http://www.lsuhsc.edu/administration/ae/housingapp.aspx and rental charges for each type of accommodation can be found at http://www.lsuhsc.edu/administration/ae/rental.aspx. if you have any questions regarding housing, you can contact housing staff at http://www.lsuhsc.edu/administration/ae/housingstaff.aspx.

Hotels for Temporary Stay
Due to LSUHSC’s convenient location near New Orleans downtown, there are plenty of hotels available if you and/or your family members need to a place to stay prior to moving into a dorm or apartment. The Holiday Inn is just a few blocks from campus and provides a state rate discount to guests affiliated with the LSUHSC. It is in your best interest to contact the hotels in advance to book a room because many conventions take place in the city year round and cause many hotels to fill up to full capacity.

Housing Off Campus
There are many places for rent around the city and the outskirts of the metro area. Craigslist is a great place to start when looking for housing off campus. http://neworleans.craigslist.org/.  Padmapper.com is another great site to use because it searches through classified ads dedicated to apartment hunting, and there is an app available to make apartment searching more accessible through your phone. This site includes filters and additional search tools (such as how far you will be from LSUHSC or the grocery store) www.padmapper.com.

The Marquis http://www.marquisapartments.net/ and Falstaff http://thefalstaffapartments.com/ apartment complexes are only a few blocks from campus.

Some areas of the city are more expensive than others, and like any other big city, some areas may have a high crime rate. It is important that you stay where you feel you are most comfortable. If you are trying to live off campus, we strongly advise seeing the properties before committing to a lease. You may also want to check the classifieds section of The New Orleans Advocate http://homes.theadvocate.com/ and the rental section of The Times Picayune nola.com http://realestate.nola.com/for-rent/ . Some LSUHSC students who are looking for roommates or someone to take over their lease place notices on the bulletin boards in the MEB on the 3rd across from the elevators.

While many find it convenient to stay in the city, some students venture out and decide to reside in suburban areas, such as West Bank or in Metairie. These areas have many places to eat, shop, and have fun. They offer many of the same activities that New Orleans offers, without the burden of traveling in and out of the city. Sometimes the outlying areas around New Orleans provide the apartment you want at a better price. Below are a couple of sites that have a variety of rental properties to cater to your needs:
