Dr. Michael Celestin is an Assistant Professor of Behavioral and Community Health Sciences at the LSU Health New Orleans School of Public Health.  He is also the Director of the Louisiana Tobacco Control Initiative.  His research expertise is in the dissemination and implementation of evidence-based health systems change policies and interventions to ensure cessation treatment for low socio-economic groups most likely to use tobacco and suffer from tobacco-related disabilities, diseases, and deaths. Dr. Celestin recently received a Roadmap Scholars Award from the Louisiana Clinical and Translational Science Center (LA CaTS).  His project is entitled “Promoting Implementation of Interventions to Improve Tobacco Cessation in Healthcare (PITCH) for Rural Populations.”

Dr. Tung-Sung Tseng is an Associate Professor with tenure and the Charles L. Brown, MD, Endowed Professor of Health Promotion and Disease Prevention in Behavioral and Community Health Sciences at the School of Public Health at LSU Health New Orleans. His research interests include tobacco control, childhood obesity, gene-environment interaction, risk behavioral patterns, community-based participatory research (CBPR), health promotion interventions and evaluations, health disparities, and cancer prevention among ethnic minorities and underserved populations. He serves as a lead evaluator of the Louisiana Tobacco Control Initiative.
Qingzhao Yu, Ph.D.

Dr. Qingzhao Yu is a Professor of Biostatistics at LSU Health New Orleans School of Public Health. Dr. Yu is interested in developing statistical methods for public health, health care, and clinical and lab research. She has published over a hundred peer-reviewed papers on statistical methodology development and collaborations. Dr. Yu’s research interests include Bayesian Modeling, Bayesian Clinical Trial, Causal Effect Analysis, Computational Method, Health Disparities, Machine Learning and Data Mining, Mediation Analysis, Spatial Analysis, and Survey Research.  She serves as the Lead Biostatistician of the Louisiana Tobacco Control Initiative.
Bingjing Mao, Ph.D.

Dr. Mao is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Community Health Sciences & Policy at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. Her research centers on leveraging digital health—particularly mobile health (mHealth)—to deliver real-time, tailored interventions for tobacco cessation and cancer screening. She is also interested in exploring ways to integrate digital tools with person-led support to create more personalized and comprehensive interventions. Dr. Mao has led and contributed to multiple NIH-funded projects and currently serves as Co-Chair of the Communications Subcommittee within the SRNT Treatment Research Network.

Rachael N. Reed, DrPH, MPH is an Assistant Professor of Community Health Sciences & Policy at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. With over a decade of experience in public health practice and academia, her research addresses health equity and the social and structural determinants of health through community-engaged approaches. She has led and contributed to numerous federally funded projects, bringing deep expertise in chronic disease prevention and tobacco control focused on underserved urban communities. She also serves on the editorial board of AJPM Focus and holds several national leadership roles.

Dr. Tyra Toston Gross is an Associate Professor of Public Health at Xavier University of Louisiana, where she has worked as a public health instructor, researcher, and mentor since August 2015. Before joining Xavier, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship in reproductive women’s health at the University of Texas Medical Branch. Her research expertise is in maternal & child health disparities.  Given her interest in maternal & child health, the majority of Dr. Gross’ research has focused on the health of reproductive-age women. Her current research projects explore the health of Black postpartum women in Louisiana, infant & young child feeding during emergencies, and smoking cessation needs for low-income pregnant women.
Claire Hayes Watson, Ph.D., MPH

Dr. Watson is a public health researcher with over 15 years of experience leading mixed-methods studies focused on chronic disease management, health equity, and population health. She holds a doctorate in Community Health Sciences from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center and an MPH in Nutrition from Tulane University. Dr. Hayes-Watson completed her postdoctoral fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Eshelman School of Pharmacy, Division of Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy, where she studied patient-provider communication and medication adherence in pediatric asthma. Her research has centered on asthma, COPD, and tobacco use, with a robust portfolio of peer-reviewed publications examining treatment adherence, health beliefs, and intervention effectiveness in these areas. As Director of Programs and Operations and Research and Health Services Administrator at Visionary Consulting Partners, she has led numerous research projects for federal agencies including the Veterans Health Administration. In this role, she directed multidisciplinary teams conducting national studies to improve clinical decision support, streamline workflows, and optimize digital health tools across chronic disease areas. Her work has included pre/post analyses of systems-level and population health interventions, delivering actionable insights to advance care delivery and inform policy for underserved and high-risk populations.

Dr. Julie Martin (PhD-Arizona State University) is a postdoctoral fellow in the Louisiana Tobacco Control Initiative at the LSU School of Public Health. She is a mixed-methods scholars whose research lies at the intersection of public health and health communication. She is primarily interested in using digital health technologies to reduce rates of novel tobacco use, such as e-cigarette use. Additionally, she is focused on conducting research with populations who are particularly vulnerable to tobacco use, including young adults and those with mental health diagnoses.

Ty-Runet Bryant serves as the Program Manager for Research for the Louisiana Tobacco Control Initiative at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center School of Public Health in New Orleans, LA. She holds a B.S. in Chemistry from Loyola University New Orleans and an MPH from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. She has over 15 years of experience implementing, monitoring, and evaluating community-based health initiatives, leading community outreach efforts, and coordinating the submission of program and research grant proposals.

Almetra Granger, MPH is a Ph.D. student in Community Health Sciences and Policy at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, studying under the mentorship of Dr. Michael Celestin Jr. Ms. Granger earned her Bachelor of Science (2020) and Master of Public Health (2022) with an emphasis in Health Equity from Xavier University of Louisiana. She focuses on increasing women’s access to adequate prenatal and postnatal care and doula services early in motherhood. Her research interests include exploring the intersections of population identity, reproductive health, health equity, and smoking cessation services. She conducts research using the Louisiana Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (Lap RAMS) data. Ms. Granger serves on the PRAMS Steering Committee and Shaping Healthy Equity Reproductive Outcomes (SHERO) board.
