We are thrilled to announce a significant achievement for our LSU Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC) community. Two of our dedicated students, Jessica Stein in the School of Public Health and Sarah Melton in the Graduate School, have secured a highly competitive grant from the American Public Health Association (APHA). Their remarkable accomplishment will pave the way for an educational event that promises to impact our community profoundly. The students are representing Students for Sustainability, a student-led group focused on creating a greener and more sustainable campus.
A Focus on Climate Change, Health, and Equity
The grant, awarded by APHA, is a testament to the commitment and passion that Jessica and Sarah bring to their academic pursuits. The grant’s primary objective is to support initiatives addressing the intersection of climate change, health, and equity, a cause that aligns seamlessly with the values and mission of LSUHSC.
An Inspiring Vision
The winning proposal outlines an exciting event titled “Brushstrokes for Change: Climate Action Art Expo.” This interactive art show will serve as a dynamic platform to raise awareness about the critical issues surrounding climate change and its impact on health and equity. The event’s intended audience comprises students, faculty, and community members associated with LSUHSC. Through the interactive art show and nonprofit speakers, the event aims to inspire a sense of responsibility and urgency regarding climate change’s impact on health and equity, as well as the state’s coastline. The ultimate goal is to encourage the next generation of public health leaders to take action and advocate for environmental justice.
A Glimpse into the Event
Attendees will have the opportunity to explore a diverse array of artwork related to climate change, created by talented local artists. Additionally, local nonprofit organizations actively working on climate change issues in Louisiana will be present to share their insights and initiatives.
A Bright Future
Thanks to their hard work and dedication, Jessica and Sarah have secured an invaluable opportunity to make a difference in our community and advance the cause of climate change, health, and equity. LSUHSC is proud to support and celebrate their achievements.
