DEQ Internship

Website Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality

The purpose of the DEQ Student Internship program is to employ students at the graduate and undergraduate levels, in fields of study that will be beneficial to the DEQ while providing the students with challenging work experience and exposure to the environmental regulatory processes and the business operations of a governmental entity. Through this program, the DEQ hopes to increase awareness of environmental issues and encourage students to pursue environmental/governmental careers.

In order to be considered for the internship program, students must be:

  • Currently enrolled full time in an accredited educational institution at the undergraduate or graduate levels.
  • Pursuing an education in a directly related curriculum to the Division that they will be working for (i.e. BS/MS in Biology for OES/Permits, BA in Accounting for Fiscal Services, etc.)
  • Maintain enrollment at the University while employed in the internship program.

Verification of enrollment from the University will be required upon hire. The verification must be on official University letterhead and include the students name, status (full-time or part-time with the number of hours enrolled), and classification.

Students do not need to be registered during the summer sessions in order to be qualified for student status. However, if they graduate in the spring semester, proof of enrollment for the fall semester must be received in order to continue employment under the internship program.
