New Orleans, LA — Dr. Edward Trapido has been named the Dean of the Louisiana State University (LSU) School of Public Health by Chancellor Steve Nelson, MD. This
appointment marks a significant milestone for the institution, as Dr. Trapido brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role.
Dr. Trapido is a distinguished epidemiologist and public health researcher. He holds the position of Professor and Associate Dean for Research at the LSU School of Public Health. He also serves as the Population Studies Program Leader at the LSU-LCMC Louisiana Cancer Research Center. His current research focuses on the impact of the environment on Cancer. Dr. Trapido stated, “I am excited and humbled to lead our faculty, staff, and students in innovative approaches to education, research, and meaningful community engagement. I am grateful for Dr. Nelson’s support for this appointment and look forward to his continuing leadership”.
With a career spanning several decades, Dr. Trapido has substantially contributed to cancer epidemiology and public health. He spent five years at the NCI as Associate Director for the Epidemiology and Genetics Research Program and 25 years at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center as Associate Director for Cancer Control. Dr. Trapido is past President of the American College of Epidemiology and Founding President of the Epidemiology Foundation. He has served as Chair of the Board of Directors of New Orleans FQHC and works with other NGOs. As Dean, he will guide the school in its mission to advance health equity through evidence-based education, research, and practice for populations in the context of a changing climate.
