The average employee in the United States spends about 50 hours at work each week. At the LSU School of Public Health, your health and well‐being is important to us. Thus, we are partnering with the Louisiana Department of Health’s Well Ahead LA program. LDH is recognizing organizations that commit to making the healthy choice the easy choice through healthier environments and increased access to healthy choices.
The Well Ahead LA program promotes and recognizes voluntary changes in the spaces and places where we live and work every day that make it easier for us all to live healthier, happier lives. LSU currently has a tobacco free policy to combat the serious health risks associated with the use of tobacco products, both to users and non-users. You will soon notice colorful “5-2-1-0” posters displayed in our workplace. Let’s Go! Is a nationally recognized program to promote the environments where we work. “5-2-1-0” stands for:
- 5 or more servings of fruits and vegetables per day
- 2 or fewer hours of recreational screen time per day
- 1 or more hour of physical activity per day
- 0 soda or sweetened beverages per day
Also, we will be seeking your input as to healthy activities to adopt for our workplace. We hope these everyday decisions can lead to meaningful changes in your life…and help us get our New Year off to a healthy start! Look for the exciting announcement, as we anticipate being a designated Well Ahead WellSpot in the coming weeks!
Yours in better health,
Aubree Thelen
