Prostate Awareness Month

September is National Prostate Health Month.  African American men are more likely to get Prostate Cancer than any other group. The statistics show that 1 in 6 African American men will get Prostate Cancer. When compared to White men African American men are twice as likely to die from this disease because their Prostate Cancer is more aggressive, and they are being diagnosed at a younger age. Louisiana is one of 8 states that has been selected to participate in an African American Prostate Cancer Study called RESPOND, and  LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans has been selected as Louisiana’s participation site and Community Liaison to help with the recruitment of participants. The study is the largest research study to look for answers to the aggressive Prostate Cancer that affects African American men. Full article here.
