CALLS TO POISON CENTERS for exposure to cleaning and disinfectant supplies “increased sharply” in early March, a new report says – just as the coronavirus took off in the U.S.
From January through March, poison centers received 45,550 calls for exposures to cleaning and disinfecting products – up 20.4% from the same months in 2019 and up 16.4% from 2018, according to the analysis from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Association of Poison Control Centers.
“CDC recommends, with precautions, the proper cleaning and disinfection of high-touch surfaces to help mitigate the transmission of SARS-CoV-2,” the report says.
