Professor Adrienne Katner chats with her former graduate student Jackie Mornay about the effects of the Claiborne Expressway on Tremé—one of the nation’s oldest Black neighborhoods. Built in the 1960’s, the expressway cast a shadow over the neighborhood, in New Orleans, Louisiana, once known for its vibrancy—the sounds of jazz and the smells of gumbo—and now mired in health problems tied to pollution.
