Mindfulness, a concept increasingly provided in healthcare practices, is widely acknowledged as a healthy way to manage stress and improve well-being. Research findings show that mindfulness-based practices greatly improves quality of life, increases memory, and improves emotional regulation. Research was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of a mindfulness intervention to reduce post-disaster anxiety disorders following Hurricane Katrina and the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill. The study found that mindfulness-based therapy can effectively reduce post-disaster anxiety and that a permanent nurse consultation liaison is needed at mental health care facilities following disasters.

LSUHSC-NO in partnership with Delgado Community College created the only mindfulness training program in the state of Louisiana that is approved by the National Board of Health and Wellness Coaching. https://www.dcc.edu/workforce-development/community-economic-development/health-coach/default.aspx. The program greatly increases workforce capacity in the state to provide mindfulness-based services as suggested in this research.
