Students from a broad range of health profession training programs committed to getting the skills they need to serve those who need it most.  South Louisiana AHEC Scholars is part of a national network of AHEC Scholars programs that aim to equip an inter-professional workforce to practice community-based primary care in rural and underserved areas.  AHEC Scholars is a two year program that involves both experiential and classroom learning.

Benefits:

$2,000 stipend, dispersed over the course of the program

Certificate of Scholarship in Community Health from South Louisiana Regional Area Health Education Center

Letter of recommendation

Potential for a lifetime of coaching and support from a likeminded professional peer group – both at home and nationwide

Program Eligibility:

Applicants must be enrolled in a 2+ year university or community college health professions program to apply. Applications from students with other curriculum timelines are subject to additional review for feasibility.
All are encouraged to apply.

Preference is given to individuals who are:
Louisiana residents
Have a demonstrated interest in community health
Part of a population underrepresented in the healthcare field
From a rural or underserved area
First generation college students
