COVID-19 Contact Tracing

The successful candidate will conduct case interviews with patients to gather information including symptom history, source of illness, list of close contacts, and activity history while infectious. This person will conduct notifications to close contacts regarding their exposures and the need to quarantine, and will provide cases and contacts with instructions for isolation and quarantine. They will also make appropriate referrals to testing, clinical
services, and other essential support services, as indicated. While dialogue can be guided by standard
protocols, the interaction with the patient necessitates flexibility, cultural competence and application of
motivational interviewing techniques. Developing a warm, empathetic rapport with cases and contacts is
essential to providing effective support and collecting the most accurate information.
The successful candidate will act as a liaison between contact tracing agents and the Infectious Disease
Epidemiology Program COVID-19 epidemiological team. This person will be expected to develop a
thorough understanding of COVID-19 prevention recommendations, and conduct follow-up with
workplaces and businesses that have positive cases among employees or patrons in order to make
appropriate recommendations. The person will also be responsible for reviewing regional contact tracing
data to identify areas where additional follow-up by public health is needed and communicating those
findings to the regional public health team. This work will require prioritization, prompt action, attention
to detail in documentation and data management as multiple investigations will be conducted
simultaneously.

Applicants who have completed a Masters degree in public health are preferred. The hours of work would
be 8am-5pm 5-6 days a week, including some weekend days. The position is currently remote but based
in New Orleans, and applicants would need to have a computer and reliable internet access. The use of
your personal phone would be required. This position does not come with benefits and pay is $17.60-
$24/hr, depending on experience.
