On Feb 1, 2025, Dr. Peggy Honoré was an invited guest speaker at the Region VI Student National Medical Association Conference (SNMA). SNMA has 6,000 members nationwide with Region VI representing Chapters in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia. The two-day event was held in Charlottesville, VA at the University of Virginia.
A summary of SNMA goals include addressing community needs through advocacy and sustainable action and improving healthcare quality for all populations. The theme of the conference was “Empowering Tomorrow’s Healers: Building Skills, Breaking Barriers.
Dr. Honoré was invited to present given SNMA Executive Board knowledge about the unique Health Policy Honors Program at LSUHSC-NO for medical students. Over the past 9 years 56 students have successfully completed the program that included an 8-week fellowship in Congress or a DC-based policy office. Dr. Honoré’s presentation was Building Policy and Advocacy Skills in Healthcare. Other topics at the conference included presentations and workshops by specialist representing Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, General Surgery, Nephrology, Pediatrics, Urology, Orthopedics, and Medical Ethics. The Keynote speaker, Dr. Raolat Abdulai, presented on Creating Impact in the Unpredictable World of Medicine. The conference concluded with awards presented to members for outstanding Research.
