LSU Health New Orleans Academic Campuses Closed Friday, January 19, 2018

LSU Health New Orleans academic downtown and dental school campuses will be closed Friday, January 19, 2018. Because of low water pressure, Governor Edwards has closed state offices in Orleans, among other parishes. New Orleans facilities and schools are closed. Jefferson Parish schools are closed. The water pressure is insufficient to flush toilets, etc.

Low water pressure has also caused precautionary Boil Water Advisories to be issued in Orleans and Jefferson, among other parishes. The water is not safe to drink or for handwashing without hand sanitizers.

This closure applies only to the academic campuses of LSU Health New Orleans. While patient appointments at all clinics on the Dental School campus will need to be rescheduled, the Healthcare Network will open the Gravier Street location, along with the St. Charles Avenue and West Bank locations as normal. The Metairie and Kenner HCN clinic locations will be closed. Hospital personnel should follow hospital emergency procedures and instructions.

Officials are urging residents to limit their use of water to necessities only and to check their properties for leaking pipes, both actions to help bring water pressure back up. Testing prior to lifting a Boil Water Advisory cannot be done until the pressure returns to at least 15 psi, and it takes a minimum of 24 hours for test results to come back. So please do your part.

We will keep you informed as we receive additional information.
