Dual-Degree In Person Track for MD Students

Make a lasting impact on public health as a physician with the new LSU 4-Year MD-MPH Dual Degree Program. This innovative program combines rigorous coursework from both the School of Medicine and the School of Public Health, preparing medical students to be not only exceptional clinicians but also leaders in improving public health across various disciplines.

Students in the 4-Year MD-MPH Program benefit from a dynamic curriculum, diverse field placements, and mentorship from expert faculty across LSU Health Sciences Center. This integrated approach provides a solid foundation in both clinical medicine and public health, allowing students to explore their unique interests while developing the critical skills needed to tackle 21st-century healthcare challenges. The MD-MPH program equips students with the analytical tools to identify, assess, and address emerging health issues, shaping them into versatile healthcare professionals ready to make a difference.

Program Timeline
  • Summer Session before Year 1 Medical School – Start MPH Courses
  • Year 1 Fall Semester of Medical School – No MPH Courses
  • Year 1 Spring Semester of Medical School – Continue MPH Courses
  • Summer Session before Year 2 – MPH Practice Experience and Courses
  • Year 2 Fall Semester of Medical School – Continue MPH Courses
  • Year 2 Spring Semester of Medical School – Continue MPH Courses
  • Year 3 of Medical School – No MPH Courses
  • Year 4 of Medical School – MPH Culminating Experience

Students interested in the MD/MPH Dual Degree Program will apply to a specific MPH concentration:

  • Epidemiology & Population Health
Application Requirements:
  • Acceptance by LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine
  • The deadline to apply to the LSU School of Public Health for the MD/MPH program is May 1
  • MPH application form including:
