DeAnn Gruber Named NASTAD Board Chair

DeAnn Gruber, Adjunct Associate Professor, Behavioral and Community Health Sciences Named NASTAD Board Chair

NASTAD (National Alliance of State & Territorial AIDS Directors) is a non-profit association that represents public health officials who administer HIV and hepatitis health care, prevention, education, and supportive service programs funded by state and federal governments in all 50 US states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands and the US Pacific Islands. NASTAD also supports partner governments in Africa, the Central America region, and the Caribbean region.  

On May 25, Dr. Gruber was recognized with the 2016 NASTAD Program Excellence Award for outstanding and innovative work to elevate, examine, and counter the effects of institutional racism in public health practice in Louisiana.

Dr. Gruber has served as the Administrative Director of the Louisiana Office of Public Health, STD/HIV Program since 2010 and has been with the Office of Public Health’s HIV program since 2003. She earned her doctorate in Social Work from Tulane University in 2003, and her Master of Social Work from Southern University at New Orleans in 1991. Her experience includes more than 25 years in the HIV field.

Dr. Gruber has served on the LSUHSC School of Public Health faculty since 2004.
