Why LSU Health New Orleans School of Public Health?

Hear it from our students:

whysph_01_450x270“I applied to LSUHSC because I’m from New Orleans, and wanted to come home. I had worked on Dr. Sothern’s Trim Teens Program through a college internship, and heard from her student workers that LSUHSC-SPH offers MPH level students lots of opportunities for research and field experience. I enrolled because, as soon as I submitted my application, professors reached out to me personally, asking about my interests and offering me work and research opportunities at LSUHSC-SPH. Based on their questions, they had clearly read my personal statement. I felt that I would be valued as a student at LSUHSC-SPH, and would receive encouragement and opportunities for professional advancement. All of that turned out to be true!”

whysph_02_450x300“1.) The people. I personally believe that the greatest resource an institute can offer is its people. The devotion and compassion displayed by the LSU SPH family is quite evident both in and out of the classroom. They don’t just want you to pass, they want you to succeed.

2.) The location. The location makes it one of the most ideal places to study public health while partaking in some great food and even greater culture.

3.) The size. While somewhat smaller than other programs, LSU SPH offers a great learning environment and ideal student-to-teacher ratio. From the minute you enter the building, you are more than just another number, you are a scholar with something to gain and to offer.”

whysph_03_450x340“I was attracted to LSU SPH because of its location and the population it serves. I honestly believe there is no better place to further my knowledge of public health than New Orleans. Also, when I visited the campus in April the hospitality I received was unmatched by any other MPH program I looked in to. I feel that I will be able to excel independently in the program while also benefitting from the support and guidance of both staff and students here. If there is one aspect I would recommend to future students it is the resources available for internship, job and volunteer opportunities.”
