Research Associate 2 (Abstractor/Data Editor)

Description

LSU Health Sciences Center/School of Public Health/Louisiana Tumor Registry (LTR) is seeking a qualified person to perform the following tasks: Screen pathology reports and disease indices  and other clinical documents to identify reportable cancer cases, review medical records for case abstraction and coding code cancer cases, edit case to correct errors and identify training needs,  consolidate information from multiple source records, respond to editing requests from LTR central office.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management, Public Health, Nursing, or Biology
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in relevant fields, such as cancer registration, tumor registry, medical
    record coding, or nursing

or

  • Master’s Degree
  • Experience in related fields
  • Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR)

 

Additional Position Information

  • Effective communication skills in a multidisciplinary environment
  • In-depth knowledge of human anatomy and medical terminology
  • Extensive knowledge of registry practice
  • Knowledge of current cancer coding practices

The mission of the Louisiana Tumor Registry is to describe the burden of cancer in Louisiana by collecting complete and high-quality cancer data and by compiling timely statistics so that  data-driven cancer prevention and control programs can be implemented in the state to reduce cancer morbidity and mortality. The Louisiana Tumor Registry (LTR), a statewide population-based  registry, compiles information to help guide policies for cancer prevention, early detection, diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, and survivorship. LTR data can help reduce the state’s cancer burden and disparities and can improve the survival and quality of life for all cancer patients.

Research Associate 2 (Study Coordinator)

Description

LSU Health Sciences Center/School of Public Health/Louisiana Tumor Registry (LTR) is seeking a qualified person to perform the following tasks: Coordinate activities for cancer registry studies,  including physician and patient consenting, and patient recruitment and interview; review and abstract medical records; edit data in LTR database and correct errors; collect biologic samples  pathology laboratories and study subjects. Assist in IRB application and progress reports.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Health Information System or related field
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in relevant fields, such as cancer registration, medical records or
    nursing

or

  • Master’s Degree
  • Experience in related fields
